Using a Snatch Block
- A snatch block lets you either increase pulling power / reduce the load on your winch or change the direction of pull.
- Choose a snatch block with an MBL (Minimum Breaking Load) of at least twice your winch’s capacity and with a pully that fits your rope diameter.
- Open the side plates and place the pulley over the anchor shackle or tree saver shackle.
- Run the winch cable through the pulley groove, close the plates, and lock them.
- To double pulling power, hook the rope end back to a secure recovery point on your vehicle, creating a 2:1 mechanical advantage.
- To redirect pull, simply lead the rope from the winch through the block and on to the load without re-hooking—this changes the angle but not the pull ratio.
- Always keep the cable aligned in the centre of the pulley groove to prevent side loading.
