Troubleshooting Guide

Winch will not operate.

Cause

  • Loose, damaged or corroded wiring.
  • The motor has burnt out.
  • Winch supply battery is inadequate.
  • The remote battery is critically low.
  • Wireless signal strength is low.
  • Either wireless or wired controls are defective.

Solution

  • Check all wiring and connections to ensure good condition.
  • Test the motor by direct connection and replace it if required.
  • Check the voltage of the supply battery matches the winch.
  • Replace the remote battery or use the wired remote.
  • Decrease the distance between the remote and the winch.
  • Test using another control system.

Runs in only one direction.

Cause

  • Motor connection stud(s) have been overtightened and snapped internal weld.
  • Wander lead is not correctly connected.
  • Loose, damaged or corroded wiring.

Solution

  • Replace motor.
  • Check wander lead is correctly inserted into the control box socket (& rotated to lock position if bayonet type).
  • Check all wiring and connections to ensure good condition.

Will not free spool.

Cause

  • Free spool not disengaged.

Solution

  • Disengaged free spool.

Load does not hold.

Cause

  • Disengaged free spool.
  • Brake unit has failed.
  • Winch rope has come off drum fixing.

Solution

  • Engaged free spool.
  • Replace the brake unit.
  • Re-fix rope to drum.

Winch runs in the opposite direction.

Cause

  • Motor leads crossed.
  • Solenoid control crossed.
  • Swap wireless receiver output wire connections.

Solution

  • Reverse electric connections to the motor.
  • Reverse black and red wires on the solenoid.
  • Swap wireless receiver output wire connections.

Motor runs extremely hot

Cause

  • Long period of operation
  • Winch overload

Solution

  • Stop operation to let the unit cool down
  • Reduce load
